Scottish Water maintains and improves over 30,000 miles of sewer pipes which take waste water away from homes and business premises across Scotland. They then treat this at over 1,800 waste water treatment works before returning it to the environment.

Scottish Water offers a range of septic tank de-sludging services. These services are available to household and business customers who own a private septic tank which takes standard waste, such as sewage and waste water. We continually aim to deliver a high service level to all our customers. Read on to find out more about our service as well as tips on how to look after your tank and trouble shooting those problems that sometimes come up.

Wonderful Women of Wastewater 2014

This was a virtual meeting where the fabulous #WWofWW gathered around the Adobe Connect 'water cooler' to inspire young girlsto stay in school.

In the US, girls comprise 70% of science, technology, engineering and math college STEM students.
But only 45% of them stick with it to graduate.

falw14As usual we talked about EPA WaterSense and the 2014 March Fix A Leak Week Campaign!

This year's theme is 'Chasing Leaks!'

Pass The Plunger! It's Fix A Leak Week!

March 17-23 was the annual EPAWaterSense 'Fix A Leak Week!'
Leaks Can Run, but They Can't Hide!

Fix A Leak Week AZThis year, we chased down leaks! Household leaks can waste more than 1 trillion gallons of water annually nationwide, so we hunted down the drips during Fix a Leak Week (March 17-23). Now go race over to your plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems, fix the leaks, and save valuable water, energy and money.

To celebrate FALW, we promoted
The Golden Plunger Relay Race.

In a twist on the traditional road race this passing of the plunger took place online via Twitter. Teams of Tweeters were on their starting blocks at 9am on March 17 set to grab the ceremonial plunger and run for water across the Twittersphere!

Each morning WasteWater Education posted an EPA WaterSense fact on Twitter to draw attention to the personal, environmental and financial cost of poor water use practices - such as letting faucets, toilets and outdoor sprinklers leak away expensive treated drinking water.

At the end of FALW the Team with the highest number of ReTweets, the greatest distance covered, and the most original screenshot of where the Golden Plunger has been sighted received an actual, spectacularly decorated, no expense spared fake gold plunger to display with pride!

And the winner is ...... Fix A Leak Week Arizona!

Nationwide, more than 1 trillion gallons of water leak from U.S. homes each year. That's why WaterSense reminds Americans to check their plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems each year during Fix a Leak Week.

Virginia MasonAnd the 'runner' up was Virginia Mason Medical Center, an award-winning, nonprofit health care organization offering a network of primary and specialty clinics around Seattle. They will receive a Silver Plunger!

And kudos to the 30+ 'also rans' who chased leaks from one side of the US to the other! Well done!

If 1 out of 100 American homes switched to water efficient fixtures, we could save over 100 million electricity kWh per year — eliminating 80,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Or the equivalent to removing nearly 15,000 automobiles from the road for one year!
